Nokia makes another move…

Mobile tech news is reporting that Nokia will acquire Trolltech ASA, a recognized software provider with world-class software development platforms and frameworks.  Speculations are that in addition to the key software assets, its talented team will play an important role in accelerating the implementation of Nokia’s software strategy. The deal is reportedly worth .16 cents per share cash.

The company’s innovative culture and resources will give our employees new and exciting possibilities and fulfill our vision of “Qt everywhere”.”

In October, Nokia announced an $8.1 billion acquisition of map data specialist Navteq.

Microsoft to buy FAST…

The WSJ reported that Microsoft is buying  FAST (subject to shareholder approval) in a deal reportedly worth $1.2 billion. FAST currently offers “enterprise search” products, a Pay Per Click platform, and mobile search functions. In short, FAST is the search company’s search provider. Endeca, Autonomy are just some that compete with FAST .

The combination of Microsoft and FAST gives customers a new choice: a single vendor with solutions that span the full range of customer needs.”

FAST clients include YellowPages.com, Virgilio, Washington Post, Financial Times, CareerBuilder, and InfoSpace (acquired by Motricity) mobile division.
